Let’s look after partridges. Build up a lee from a fir branches. It would be great, if you could feed rabbits outside the garden, then they will not enter your garden.
Sun is rising higher and higher and reminds of a spring. At day, it heats trunks of fruiters, but at nights it’s still freezing. Variations of temperature begin. They are very dangerous for the fruiters, especially for those with not bandaged up trunks. That’s why when the wormer day will rise, we should whiten trunks. Lime can be bought in farm shop, but you should add there carpentry or silicate glue and household soap. Such lime won’t be washed be the rain. Trunks can be whitened with 6 – 8 times diluted emulsion wall paint. They’re white and reflect light. Don’t forget, that trunk whitening in April and May has only decorative meaning.
Don’t forget and artisan works. There is a lot of things we need in garden. In winter time boxes for fruits, lathers can be made. And when you’re building a garden house, you can cut out ornaments. Every gardener would be proud of ornamented balcony and pretty patterned vaulting.
Nesting-box is great decoration to, its compliments gardener for caring for the birds.
Yet every nesting-box has its purpose. It depends from a manhole size, what will live in it.
We remind that the nesting-boxes for tomtits has to be 26 – 30 cm height and about 11 – 12 cm width (in side). For tomtits you have to make 2,8 cm manhole, and for the great tits and nuthatchs-3,2 – 3,4 cm. The size from the bottom to manhole, has to be 17cm. A little bit bigger nest-boxes are made for starlings, they can’t get in if the manhole is less than 4, 7 cm width.
If you have opportunity you should do smithery and metal works. Exquisite door loops, pretty grate on the basement windows, metal star on the house vaulting, gorgeous chandelier above the door, will always remind about mastery host.
The garden is even more alive and lovely when bees murmur in it. But to raise them, you need to have hives. Let’s make them. Bees will raise gardens crop, and for caring even will make honey.
Don’t forget to get manure, pesticides and the inventor you need. Let’s sharpen pruning tools: hooks, secateurs. It is said that the wheels are done in winter, and the sledge in summer. Thoroughly get ready for the biggest works season, Don’t forget to go to the basement and water the graft and stratified seed- don’t let them shrink.
Visit the garden from time to time. Rabbits consume fruiters when spring is near. Don’t let them cripple trees.
Keep feeding the birds constantly. Birds will look for food at the same place and if they won’t hind it- they will day.
It’s about time to plan what kind of vegetable you will sow in the plot and start thinking about getting the seeds . Let’s count area intended for each garden-stuff and how much seeds we need. Reconsider seeds we have from the last years, especially those which viability we dough, because of its looks or the length of time which it was been kept. Let’s germinate them with wet material putted on the plate in 18 – 21°C temperature. If during two weeks seeds didn’t sprout- you need to buy new seeds.
Check in what condition is the vegetables kept in basements and other holding places. When it’s really cold, chilly basements can be extra heated by electrical heaters or other means – even hot coal putted in the metal tubs. In every case you have to keep fire safety rules.
Sprout the onions, parsleys, celeries, cress, grow the seedling of cucumbers and tomatoes for the greenhouse. Collect the ash for the manure. In the first month half sow radishes, celeries, cress , salads, onions and other green- stuff in the heated greenhouses. Keep repairing inventor, inspects and greenhouses. Wattle straw plait for the new inspects using season, prepare props to bind the tomatoes. Store strings.
Firs days of February tuberous begonias have to be seeded in to the boxes which is filled with moors and leafy ground mixture. Pelargonium which is grown in chilly places has to be watered in moderation. They’re pruned back in February or March. Don’t be afraid to cut back a lot , leave only 5-6 leaves from the bottom. Such pelargonium will grow back quickly and bloom in plenty. Pelargonium has to be pruned every year , then they will bloom richly. Old, very stretched pelargonium is difficult to form, so it’s better to multiply for new ones. It’s done by shoot in March.
It‘s time to seed blooming begonium. It‘s seeded in moors, leafy and sand ground mixture (2:1:1). Substratum has to be watered before seeding. Seeds are very tiny, so after seeding they don’t have to be covered with ground. Box is being kept in 16 – 18°C temperature. Sprayed with pulverisator. Grown sprouts has to be replanted in to moors, leafy, inspection and sand ground mixture (1:1:1:0,5) with 3 cm distance between them. Tuberous begonias are seeded in February too. Plants which were grown from seeds bloom at the same summer, but a little bit latter then plants which were grown by shoot. Seeds keep its viability for three years. Very rare and beautiful tuberous begonias can be multiplied by shoots in March or April. Before the seeding the shoots of tuberous begonias which had mildew has to be hold in potassium permanganate solution (1g potassium mixed with 1 l water) at least for 15 min.
Prepare boxes for seeding, make shore you have the labels.
It‘s time to bring the tulip bulbs which were seeded in boxes. If you whant to have blooming tulips for eitght of March, you have to bring bulbs inside at tenth of February.
In the greenhouse you can make and gladiolus bloom earlier (in March, May ). You should take these sorts for blooming: ‘Fireliaght’, ‘Super star’, ‘America’, ‘Maestro’ and the others. You should pick large, bigger than 4 cm diameter, but still young corms. Five weeks until seeding corms are cleaned and putted sprouts up in to the wooden boxes with wire ground bottom (sprouts up).
After that they are hold in bright place, which temperature is 28 – 33°C and humidity 60%.
In warm and bright place corms buds develop really well and after five weeks they’re about 5 cm height. In dry places roots begin to grow and during the replant they quickly take root.
Otherwise, the long roots of the plants break off and plants grow in poverty for a long time. Such heat-treated Gladiolus bloom 20 days earlier. In the absence of favorable conditions to maintain specified temperature, corms can be hold in 22 - 25 ° C temperature, then you will need to keep them like this for about seven weeks.
Glasshouse maintained 18 to 20 ° C at day and 12 – 15 ° C at night. When Gladiolus is starting to grow, greenhouse should be well aeration. It’s better to water them on midday, then leaves can dry until evening. In order to exploit all area of the greenhouse, you can seed salad, dill between the flowers.
